Synod Meetings

Matters of common interest to the parishes of the Deanery are discussed, and recommendations made, at the Deanery Synod, to which each parish sends one or more representatives, who report back to their parish's PCC

The synod consists of two houses, the House of Clergy and the House of Laity.

The Deanery Synod also forms a layer in the formal government of the Church of England, it is a channel through which ideas and information can pass from the Parishes to the Diocesan Synod and on to the General Synod, and back the other way. Deanery synods are formally required to comment on some matters referred to them by the diocesan synod (e.g. recently Bridge Report, Ordination of Women to the Priesthood).

Diocesan synods may also give responsibilities to deanery synods - in our case, we are responsible for allocation of Parish Shares within the Deanery.
